Who are Parkinson’s Victoria?
Parkinson’s Victoria are an Australian Based not-for-profit organisation raising awareness and funds for services and research that improves the quality of lives for people living with Parkinson’s and atypical Parkinson’s conditions.
Their multi-disciplinary health team provides specialist advice and support to people living with Parkinson’s, their families, carers and health care professionals through:
- Tailored health education programs and seminars
- A free and confidential health information services
- Comprehensive web-based information
- An extensive Peer Support Group network.
Parkinson’s Victoria is committed to supporting vital research into effective treatments that improve the quality of life for people living with the condition, and for the pursuit of a cure.
Their vision
Their vision is a world without Parkinson’s and their mission is to enable people living with Parkinson’s to lead active and full lives. They aim to support the development of more effective treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s Victoria engage and connect people living with Parkinson’s to understand their needs and ensure services, supports and research are responsive, relevant and sympathetic.
They aim to promote connection, participation and inclusion as a means to living an active and full life.
What has Parkinson’s Victoria achieved in the past 5 years?
Over the past five years Parkinson’s Victoria’s Multi-disciplinary Health Team has attended to over 20,000 support calls and visits from people living with Parkinson’s needing information or support.
Parkinson’s Victoria have facilitated over 72 support groups supporting over 3400 people living with Parkinson’s across Victoria. These groups provide information and connections for carers, family and people living with the condition.
Parkinson’s Victoria invests in research. Over the 2019 financial year Parkinson’s Victoria supported over seven research projects contributing to the body of evidence supporting issues with speech, movement improvements via physical activity and Treat to Target to support medical decision making.
Parkinson’s Victoria hosts regular Recently Diagnosed Seminars to provide important information to those who are vulnerable in the early stages of the condition.
Annually, Parkinson’s Victoria hosts InSearch seminars (located in Melbourne and at least two regional centres) to share the latest global research developments which aim to build understanding of Parkinson’s to improve the quality of life via treatments and for the pursuit of a cure.
Parkinson’s Victoria’s Multi-disciplinary Health Care present and attend healthcare seminars Nationally and Internationally advocating for the multi-disciplinary model of care and also building the healthcare industry’s capacity to support people living with Parkinson’s.
Parkinson’s Victoria advocates for people living with Parkinson’s by collaborating with community, education, health and aged care sectors to improve understanding of the condition.
Why has Parkinson’s Victoria Sponsored INSIGHT in 2020?
