Prof. Margaret Schenkman – USA
Dr Schenkman is Professor of and was Program Director, Associate Dean and Physical Therapy Educator at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Rehabilitation Sciences Program from 2004 – 2019. She received a PhD from Yale University in microbiology. Shortly thereafter, she studied physical therapy at Boston University and then worked in rehabilitation with neurologically impaired adults. She began her academic career as a teacher, but quickly developed her current line of research.
Dr Schenkman’s rehabilitation research focuses on individuals who have neurological dysfunction, with a major focus on clinical trials work that establishes the benefits of exercise for these individuals. She also conducts studies to illuminate the underlying difficulties for these populations that could be addressed through exercise. Much of this work relates to people with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and critical care poly neuropathy and polymyopathy.
